Therapy for OCD
If your thoughts won’t leave you alone, I’ll help you take your life back.
Do you find yourself overwhelmed by thoughts or urges you cannot shake, no matter how hard you try? Maybe the only way to get relief is to do something over and over again, only to find it helps for just a moment.
You might fear harming someone, getting sick, offending your faith, or losing control. You may have hidden sharp objects, avoided public spaces, or prayed repeatedly to undo a thought, yet the thoughts keep returning. Often, they target the things that matter most to you.
If you are a parent, you might see it in your child: constant reassurance-seeking, repeated rituals, or escalating fears. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can disrupt school, friendships, and family life.
When you live with OCD, intrusive thoughts can feel relentless. And the strategies you use to feel better—checking, cleaning, counting, or avoiding—can quietly take over your time and energy. Trying to outthink OCD or rely on willpower often strengthens the cycle.
The good news is that OCD is highly treatable. The gold-standard treatment is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). ERP helps people gradually face their fears without turning to compulsions. Over time, anxiety fades, and the brain learns to tune out intrusive thoughts more effectively.
In my work with clients, I also integrate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based approach that helps you relate differently to unwanted thoughts and feelings. ACT supports values-based action and psychological flexibility, even when distressing thoughts persist.
Whether you are new to OCD treatment or returning to therapy after a relapse, I will help you build the tools and strategies needed to reduce distress and regain a sense of freedom. Instead of letting OCD call the shots, you can take the lead in your own life again.
OCD therapy is available in person at my office in Arlington, Virginia, or via secure telehealth for clients in over 40 states through PSYPACT. If you’re not located in Washington, DC, Virginia, or Maryland, feel free to reach out to see if we can work together.
If you’re ready to move forward, I’d love to connect.
